The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dua Code of Cashmere arrived in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, the collection that engages with beloved scent profiles. The reference point here was a discontinued Armani flanker called Code Cashmere, a 2017 release that earned a quiet following before vanishing from shelves. The Dua Brand's engagement with the original is, by their own framing, a reconstruction: keep the architecture intact, render it with care, and present it at a concentration that lets the original speak. The result is an Extrait de Parfum concentration in a 30 ml bottle, vegan, and presented as a tribute to a scent that no longer circulates in the original form. On skin, the opening moves through a dewy, softly powdered lift that reads almost floral but stays creamy at its center.
What makes the note list unusual is the tension between softness and structure. Almond milk and heliotrope read as skin-cosmetics, even gourmand-adjacent. But patchouli, frankincense, and suede refuse to let the composition drift into pastry. Orange blossom and jasmine sambac add brightness at the top, but the iris root and leather anchor everything in something that smells deliberate. It is a floriental that knows it is a floriental, and spends most of its life proving it is not a fluffy one.
The evolution
Title Name hits soft at first contact. Orange blossom and jasmine sambac open with a dewy floral lift, almost like the first breath after stepping out of a warm shower into a cooler room. Almond milk arrives within minutes, smoothing the edges and adding a milky warmth that does not feel gourmand so much as tactile. There is a hint of iris powder almost immediately, sitting underneath the florals like a setting. Within the first 30 minutes, the heart takes shape. Heliotrope and the almond milk deepen into a slightly marzipan register, warmed by patchouli's earthiness. The suede note begins to assert itself, not as a separate event but as a texture shift across the whole composition. Leather and incense start threading in, pushing the scent away from sheer floral and toward something with more weight. The orange blossom does not vanish; it recedes, becoming a faint top-light rather than a headline. By the second and fourth hour, the drydown is fully in charge. Frankincense adds a low, resinous hum beneath the suede and iris.
Cultural impact
Dua Code of Cashmere draws on a specific appetite within the fragrance community: the desire to recover something thought lost. The 2022 release is built around a discontinued Armani flanker called Code Cashmere, a 2017 release that no longer circulates in its original form. Wearing this is partly about the scent itself and partly about recovering a profile that has otherwise disappeared from shelves. On skin, the experience opens with a dewy, milky lift, bright but rounded, with almond cream softening the bloom into something warm and inviting.
