The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Divine Apple is a 2023 release from The Dua Brand, sitting squarely within their Inspired Expression / Dua Designer Line. The catalog is built on a clear premise: take the architecture of well-known designer fragrances and reconstruct it for a different price point. Divine Apple draws from Nina Ricci's Bella, a fruity-floral that put rhubarb front and center. The Dua Brand's approach here is straightforward. They reference the profile, study what made the original wear well, then deliver it in their own formulation. Extrait de Parfum concentration in a 34ml bottle, vegan and cruelty-free. The result is a recreation aimed at the wearer who liked Bella's bright and modern combo but wanted a different route to it. The rhubarb note is what separates this from the usual fruity-floral crowd.
Rhubarb is the note that makes this composition worth paying attention to. Most fruity-florals open with the safe trio: pear, peach, apple. Tart, but muted. Rhubarb brings a sharper green acidity, almost vegetal, that cuts through the sugar the way lemon zest cuts through a glaze. Pair that with freesia and rose at the heart, and the composition avoids the syrupy trap that sinks so many fruity-florals into forgettable territory. The base keeps it grounded. Vanilla softens the edges without flattening the green brightness above. White musk does what white musk always does.
The evolution
The first minutes are loud. Rhubarb, green mandarin, and lemon come at you all at once, tart and almost effervescent, the way a citrus rind smells when you tear it. There's a green bite that makes the opening feel less like a perfume and more like biting into something. The citrus starts pulling back, and the freesia arrives. Clean, slightly soapy, a bit powdery. The rose shows up just behind it, giving the heart a soft, almost powdery femininity that you didn't expect from that sharp opening. The rhubarb never fully disappears, though. It stays in the background like a tart hum underneath the floral. As the composition settles, the vanilla starts warming up, blending with the fading florals and the white musk underneath. The drydown is skin-soft. Vanilla, musk, a ghost of the rose. What remains is a clean, warm sweetness that reads more like you than like a fragrance.
Cultural impact
Divine Apple sits inside The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, where the explicit pitch is a faithful reconstruction of Nina Ricci's Bella at a different price point. For the wearer who liked Bella's rhubarb-forward fruity-floral but wanted a vegan, cruelty-free route to it, this is the version. The composition's strength is in how it handles the rhubarb note. Rather than letting it sit as a one-dimensional tartness at the top, the brand has threaded it through the entire wear, giving it different expressions as the fragrance evolves. In the opening, it's sharp and green, almost stem-like.
