The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Darkside of the Moon arrived in 2021 from The Dua Brand. The composition draws from Prada's Luna Rossa, the 2012 release that established a recognizable code for aromatic, clean-cut menswear fragrance. Rather than mimic it wholesale, the interpretation leans into the same building blocks: bright citrus, herbal lavender, and a synthetic-amber base that projects with confidence but doesn't push too hard. The approach here feels direct. Take a structure that already works in the market, rework it, and let the wearability speak for itself. It's a pragmatic move that gives the formula a second life under a different label, appealing to anyone already familiar with the original's DNA but curious about a new reading of the same notes.
What makes this composition worth exploring is the way clary sage and ambroxan work together. The sage brings a slightly dirty, herbal quality that keeps the lavender from tipping into pure barbershop territory, adding a layer of texture that feels deliberate and grounded. Meanwhile, ambroxan does the heavy structural work, providing that warm, skin-like minerality that makes the whole thing feel like it belongs on a person rather than in a bottle. Bitter orange and mint in the opening are doing more than refreshing; they're setting a clean slate so the herbal heart has room to breathe.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are all bitter orange and mint, cold and electric, like cracking open a tin of something sharp. Then the lavender walks in and takes over the room, powdery and herbal at once, with clary sage threading underneath to keep things from going soft. As the composition develops, the citrus burns off, the mint fades, and ambroxan steps forward. That's where Darkside of the Moon earns its name. The clean, soapy top gives way to a warm, almost musky amber skin scent that sits close and holds its ground for the remainder of the wear. By the end of the day you're left with that ambroxan-mineral trace, faint but present, the kind of thing someone catches only if they're close enough. The progression feels natural, each phase handing off to the next without any jarring leaps, and the drydown carries enough warmth to feel comforting without crossing into sweetness.
Cultural impact
Darkside of the Moon lives in a specific corner of the fragrance world: the reconstruction market. It occupies a space where wearers seek aromatic, clean profiles inspired by luxury designer releases, offering an alternative reading of well-established formulas. The fragrance doesn't seek to redefine a category but instead operates within an existing framework, which has made it a familiar name among scent enthusiasts who follow the reconstruction scene.
