Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza built Crystalline Effect in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a collection within the Dua Designer Line. The fragrance draws on the structure of D.S. & Durga's Crystal Pistil, a composition noted for its crystalline, petal-like quality. Raza takes that blueprint and works within it, producing a scent that shares the same transparent skeleton while standing on its own. The result reads as a quieter, more contained interpretation of the original's floral architecture, with each note chosen for clarity rather than volume.
What makes this composition interesting is the way it stacks two types of water. Orange blossom water and jasmine water bring the green, living moisture of a garden in early morning, while the synthetic aquatics and Paradisone add the cold mineral clarity of glass or ice. The result is a flower that exists in two states at once, botanical and architectural. Ambrette seed and civettone anchor that floating quality with a skin-warm musk that keeps the whole thing from disappearing into the air.
The evolution
The opening is all surface. Orange blossom water hits cold and bright, jasmine water behind it like a shadow, and a flicker of pink pepper that adds the faintest static charge. Then something shifts. Paradisone opens the middle, that molecule smells like sunlight filtered through clean linen, and the florals start to bloom rather than glisten. White musk arrives eventually, soft and close, carrying everything downward. As the hours pass, the aquatic notes recede and you're left with a skin-scent of ambrette seed and civettone, warm and slightly animal, the kind of musk that smells like someone just stepped out of a cool shower. It stays intimate from there, a quiet ride that ends not with a fade but with a settling. The composition compresses as it dries down, each layer folding into the next until only the closest notes remain audible against the warmth of skin.
