The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Caramel Café Croissant arrives in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line. This one is inspired by Hilde Soliani's Buonissimo, a pastry-leaning composition that has gathered attention among gourmand fans. It takes that blueprint and rebuilds it for the Dua audience with the same Italian dolce sensibility running underneath, but tuned for a broader, more accessible register. The result reads less like a specific café and more like the idea of one, condensed into a few sprays. There's a milky coffee warmth up top that quickly gives way to a butter-laced pastry accord, the kind of golden, just-cooled sweetness you'd catch walking past a bakery case in the early morning.
What separates this from a typical coffee-caramel gourmand is the egg note. Here, the egg shows up, giving the caramelized-sugar moment a custard-adjacent depth. It reads as pastry that's just come out of the oven, not frosting from a jar. The cappuccino opening sets a milky-foam tone before the espresso tightens it, and that tension between steamed milk and pulled shot carries through the first half hour. The sugar, dairy, and coffee stay in close conversation, each one nudging the others forward without ever taking over the stage.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are pure café counter. Cappuccino foam on top, dark espresso underneath, the two blurring into each other like a barista's last pour. Around the 20-minute mark, the pastry note arrives, not as a separate chapter but as a deepening of what's already there. The caramel thickens. The egg note adds a faintly custardy warmth that makes the whole thing feel baked rather than bottled. By the 45-minute point, the coffee recedes and the cream takes over, lending a soft dairy sweetness that smooths out the sharper espresso edges. The drydown is quiet, milky, and sweet, the kind of skin scent someone catches when they lean in close. The caramel keeps a faint presence even hours in, a low-watt sugar glow that stays close to the skin rather than projecting outward. The next morning, a faint sweetness lingers on fabric, a ghost of the pastry note that started the whole thing.
Cultural impact
Caramel Café Croissant reads as edible without tipping into novelty territory. It's the kind of fragrance that shows up on coffee dates, slow Sundays, and anywhere you want to smell like you stopped somewhere worth stopping. The composition leans into specificity, a scent tied to a particular moment rather than a generic season, and that specificity is part of what makes it work. The milky opening, the baked pastry heart, and the soft caramel-and-cream drydown all pull in the same direction, building a single impression rather than chasing complexity.
