The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza built Aromatic Cut in 2026 for The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a woody aromatic that reads like a sharpening of a classic fougère-aromatic structure. The composition pulls together sage, lavender, mint, cedar, cypress, and fir, a lineup of crisp herbs and coniferous woods that moves with purpose. The mint and lavender open the door, the sage grounds the mid-phase with its bitter-green herbal weight, and the woods take over with a dry, resinous calm. Aromatic Cut carries that cool, just-showered feeling into territory that feels less like a casual splash and more like an intentional pour, where every aromatic note earns its placement in the structure.
What makes this structure interesting is the way cedarwood and fir balsam are stacked against clary sage and lavender. The two woody anchors and the herbal duo run in parallel rather than handing off to one another. Cypress and mint stay present through the transitions, keeping the composition cool and green instead of drifting into sweetness or amber territory. Clary sage adds a slightly musky warmth that softens the lavender's sharpness, while cedarwood gives the woods a clean, pencil-shaving dryness.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all clarity. Mint and lavender push forward like cold air through an open window, with cypress adding that sharp, just-cut greenery underneath. Clary sage arrives quickly, herbal and slightly bitter, rounding out the opening into something that feels less like a casual splash of cologne and more like a deliberate choice. By the thirty-minute mark, cedarwood starts pulling the composition downward. The brightness dims, the texture thickens, and the whole thing takes on a woody warmth that feels like cashmere against skin. Fir balsam settles into the base around the two-hour mark, and it's the surprise. Resinous, slightly sweet, with a forest-floor density that most woody aromatics never reach.
Cultural impact
Aromatic Cut arrives in 2026 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. The composition leans hard into a forest-forward profile, with clary sage, cedarwood, cypress, and balsam fir doing the heavy lifting across the structure. That material lineup gives the fragrance a coniferous character that sits firmly within the woody aromatic category, the kind of scent that reads as outdoorsy without tipping into pine-candle territory. The herbal layer from clary sage and lavender keeps the composition grounded in the aromatic tradition, while the fir balsam base gives it a resinous anchor that carries well into the late drydown.
