The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amberlicious arrived in 2018 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. What emerged was a fragrance that understood what made the original work, not just the notes, but the feeling of them. Honey and rum as a base, spice cutting through the sweetness, amber tying it all together into something warm, edible, and unapologetically present. The composition opens with rich honeyed sweetness, immediately inviting and assertive. Beneath the surface, the spice element provides necessary contrast, preventing the fragrance from sliding into pure sugar territory. The amber accord serves as the connective tissue, wrapping the sweeter elements in a resinous warmth that grounds the entire composition.
What makes this pyramid interesting is the sesame. Most gourmand ambers lean entirely into sweetness, here, the sesame adds a quiet nuttiness that stops the composition from becoming syrupy. It brings an unexpected dimension that gives the fragrance something to chew on. The white orchid appears in the heart of the composition, and while it doesn't announce itself loudly, it provides a softening influence that rounds out the more assertive elements. The result is an amber that wears well beyond the first hour, because it was never a one-note proposition to begin with.
The evolution
The opening doesn't tease. Honey hits first, thick, golden, immediate. Then the cinnamon arrives with a bite that cuts through the sweetness before the rum has even had time to warm up. The first thirty minutes are the most assertive. By hour two, the honey has mellowed into something softer, the cinnamon has receded to a warmth rather than a spark, and the vanilla and tonka bean are beginning to build. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its reputation. Vanilla and benzoin settle close to the skin, with the sesame lending a dry, almost nutty finish that lingers for hours. Longevity is strong, sillage is strong, no apologies. The rum note adds a boozy warmth that develops as the top notes settle, providing an alcoholic brightness that keeps the opening from feeling too heavy.
Cultural impact
Amberlicious has found its audience among people who want the warmth of a premium amber fragrance without the traditional price barrier, and then discover the performance outlasts many fragrances at higher cost points. PdM Oajan is frequently cited as a similar fragrance, and comparisons between the two often highlight their shared amber DNA and gourmand sensibilities. Within the Inspired Expression collection, Amberlicious stands out as a particularly popular release, appreciated for its ability to deliver a sophisticated amber experience at an accessible price point.
