The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Alienated Pulp as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a collection built around reconstructing recognizable scent profiles for a wider audience. This particular release draws on the radiant, otherworldly character of Mugler's Alien Pulp, translating its luminous sweetness into a composition centered on raspberry, mandarin, and jasmine. The opening is bright and almost fizzy, with the tartness of raspberry cutting through the zesty lift of mandarin in a way that feels crisp and immediate on skin. As the minutes pass, a soft white floral warmth begins to surface, with jasmine threading through the fruit notes and lending a creamy, slightly indolic sweetness that softens the brightness without dulling it.
The note structure here is deliberately compact. Raspberry and green mandarin carry the brightness. Jasmine provides the floral anchor without tipping into heady territory. Cashmeran does the heavy lifting in the base, supplying that fuzzy, skin-like warmth that gives fruity compositions a sense of dimension. The overlap between heart and base notes, with cashmeran, orange, and musk appearing in both layers, creates a seamless transition rather than a dramatic shift. It's a formula designed for coherence, where every element reinforces the central thesis: luminous, soft, wearable.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to raspberry. It's sharp, sweet, almost candy-like, with green mandarin threading through to keep it from going syrupy. Around the thirty-minute mark, jasmine surfaces, white and clean, pulling the fruit into something more dimensional. Orange arrives quietly beneath the florals, not loud enough to announce itself but present enough to round out the sweetness. By the two-hour point, cashmeran takes over. The fruit fades into a soft, woody warmth that reads more like skin than perfume. Musk anchors the final hours, leaving a faint sweetness on fabric and pulse points well into the next morning.
Cultural impact
As part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, Alienated Pulp exists in a specific cultural space: the world of fragrance reconstruction, where familiar scent profiles are reinterpreted for a broader audience. The composition leans into a recognizable archetype, taking the radiant, slightly synthetic sweetness of Mugler's Alien Pulp and translating it into a new arrangement built around raspberry, mandarin, and jasmine. What stands out immediately is how the opening handles brightness: the tart edge of raspberry cuts through the juicy zest of mandarin, creating an almost fizzy lift that reads as luminous from the first spray.
