The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mugler built its fragrance legacy on compositions that refuse to be ignored. Angel shocked the industry with its gourmand audacity, and Alien followed in 2007 with an overdose of jasmine that became instant shorthand for bold florals. Dominique Ropion, the house perfumer, has worked within this tradition of audacity. Alien Pulp, released in 2025, continues that lineage but shifts the focus from singular jasmine to a fruit-forward introduction that sets it apart from its predecessors.
The name Pulp refers to texture and concentration. Ropion wanted to capture the idea of fruit stripped to its essence, not a passing note but the dominant force of the opening. The jasmine heart was chosen to ground the fruit without diluting it, creating a bridge between the bold start and the soft finish. Cashmeran was selected for its ability to extend wear while maintaining a plush, skin-friendly character that complements the musk base. The result is a fragrance where every layer earns its place, nothing feels arbitrary, and the fruit-forward philosophy carries through to the final drydown.
The evolution
The journey of Alien Pulp begins with the raspberry note, which arrives with almost aggressive juiciness. Green mandarin orange and orange amplify this effect, creating an opening that feels like concentrated fruit rather than a polite introduction. As the top notes recede, jasmine emerges in the heart, bringing its characteristic richness alongside the lighter, greener lily of the valley. This middle stage softens the initial intensity without losing momentum. The drydown marks a shift toward intimacy, with musk wrapping the wearer in warmth while cashmeran provides a velvety, almost textile-like softness that lingers close to the skin.
Cultural impact
Alien Pulp continues Mugler's tradition of releasing flankers that subvert expectations. The 2025 Pulp edition leans into the fruity-floral trend but keeps the house DNA intact through cashmeran and musk. The brand uses unconventional materials and bold visual presentations like the iconic angel bottle and colorful flankers. Alien Pulp fits this ethos with its bright, juicy opening.
