The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand built A Jasmine Affair in 2023 around a single, unembarrassed flower. Night blooming jasmine, with that sweet almost-fruity edge under moonlight. Egyptian jasmine, the deeper, indolic one with that almost-buttery warmth that hangs in warm air. No supporting cast announcement. No bergamot warm-up act to ease you into things. Just jasmine, doing what jasmine does when nobody asks it to whisper. The whole thing reads as a thesis statement, a fragrance that opens its door, walks into the room, and expects you to keep up. There's a confidence in that kind of construction, the willingness to let one floral family carry every chapter without apology or distraction.
The interesting choice here is the doubling. A Jasmine Affair stacks night blooming jasmine against Egyptian jasmine, which means you get the airy sweetness and the dense indolic warmth in the same breath. Add tuberose and gardenia to the heart and the composition stops pretending to be anything but a white floral event. The bergamot up top is almost a formality, a citrus handshake before the flowers take over the room. Two jasmines in dialogue creates a texture that single-note florals struggle to reach.
The evolution
The opening is sharp jasmine, the kind that announces itself without asking permission. Bergamot moves underneath, more suggestion than statement, before the Egyptian jasmine and tuberose settle into something dense and almost creamy. Gardenia softens the edges without dulling them, lending a waxy, lanolin-like smoothness that rounds the composition's sharper angles. White musk arrives and dries the blend into something closer and more personal, pulling the florals inward rather than letting them broadcast across the room. The drydown is musk-forward, the jasmine lingering as warmth rather than scent, a soft hum that stays pressed against the skin long after the initial bloom has passed. The surprise is how the indolic heaviness lifts, not fades. It doesn't disappear. It just stops shouting and starts humming, a low frequency that keeps the composition alive even when the volume drops.
Cultural impact
White florals live or die on commitment. This one commits. For jasmine devotees, A Jasmine Affair is a straightforward proposition: two jasmines, no apology, at a price that doesn't require commitment of a different kind. The 2023 release leans fully into indolic intensity, refusing to dilute its character with safer top notes or modern skin-scent conventions. The fragrance earns its place by doing what many contemporary white florals won't, doubling down on the narcotic, almost overwhelming warmth that made jasmine a cornerstone of perfumery in the first place.
