The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand launched 44 Shades of Cherry Poseidon in 2020 as part of their Inspired Tribrid collection. The concept behind the line is simple: take two or three recognizable scent profiles and braid them into something that feels like a new composition rather than a blend. Cherry Poseidon pulls from Tom Ford's Lost Cherry for its boozy cherry-liqueur architecture, Le Labo Vanille 44 for its roasted-tonka sweetness, and Creed Aventus for its fruity-smoke backbone. The result is a cherry-centric extrait de parfum that carries more weight and more resin than any single reference on its own. The hybridization approach stacks familiar signatures into something denser and more layered than a straight copy.
What makes this composition interesting is the way three very different fragrance philosophies negotiate inside one bottle. Lost Cherry gives you the liqueur-stained glamour. Vanille 44 contributes the almost-burnt tonka warmth that smells like sugar left too long on a burner. Aventus brings the structural frame: pineapple brightness, birch smoke, and that musky-muscled drydown. The trick is that none of these three signatures cancel each other out. The cherry and tonka share enough sweetness to merge, while the birch and pineapple keep the whole thing from collapsing into dessert. It is a balancing act that works because the notes were chosen to dovetail rather than compete.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are a fruit-and-fire spectacle. Pineapple and blackcurrant push forward, bright and almost aggressive, while cherry liqueur and bitter almond set up the boozy sweetness underneath. Aldehydes give the opening a fizzy, carbonated quality, like sparkling wine poured over dark fruit. From thirty minutes to two hours, the composition settles into its heart. Turkish rose and jasmine sambac arrive quietly, cushioned by the cherry and deepened by guaiac wood and Peru balsam. The smoke that was hinted at in the opening becomes more present here, not campfire smoke but the resinous, almost incense-like smoke of burning wood in a closed room. The base settles in after three hours and stays. Roasted tonka bean, sandalwood, vanilla, and oakmoss build a dense, sweet, slightly earthy foundation that clings to skin and fabric.
Cultural impact
44 Shades of Cherry Poseidon takes recognizable signatures from Lost Cherry, Vanille 44, and Aventus and braids them into a single extrait de parfum. It reads as a cherry-forward scent with genuine depth, the kind of composition that pulls from three well-known sources without ever feeling like a simple copy of any one of them. The cherry liqueur note sits at the front of the experience, but the smoke from the Aventus reference and the roasted tonka from Vanille 44 give it weight and warmth underneath. It's a fragrance for someone who likes the idea of cherry liqueur and isn't afraid of smoke.
