The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wonder Whirl launched in 2026 as part of Squishmallows' growing fragrance line. The scent takes its personality from Joelle the Bigfoot, a Squishmallow character defined by her love of exploration. Wonder Whirl translates that wide-eyed curiosity into something you can wear: the thrill of chasing the next adventure, the first taste of something sugary at a county fair, the moment you stop caring who's watching. On skin, that adventurous energy shows up as a burst of blue raspberry and minneola tangelo, bright and almost electric, backed by wild berries that keep the opening from feeling like a single-note sugar bomb.
The composition works because it commits fully to one lane: fruity gourmand. Wonder Whirl doesn't hedge. Blue raspberry, minneola tangelo, and wild berries hit first like a carnival concession, sweet and loud and almost edible. Then candied violet and blue freesia keep the sweetness spinning, the violet giving it a powdery purple tint while the freesia adds a watery coolness that keeps the fruit from collapsing into syrup. The base is where the fragrance earns its comfort food reputation.
The evolution
The opening minutes are pure sugar rush. Blue raspberry dominates, backed by minneola tangelo's bright citrus, and wild berries adding depth. Sweet, loud, almost edible. Anyone in the same room knows you just sprayed something. As the first wave of fruit softens, the candied violet surfaces with blue freesia, shifting the sweetness into something more floral and powdered. Less candy, more pastel. The marshmallow and La Réunion vanilla then move forward, taking over the composition with a gourmand warmth that stays skin-close. Clean musk supports the vanilla, keeping it from going syrupy or heavy, holding the sweetness at a level that feels comforting rather than cloying. What eventually settles on skin is a quiet vanilla-marshmallow scent, surprisingly soft and grounded. The blue raspberry is gone but its memory lingers as a faint fruity sweetness underneath.
Cultural impact
Wonder Whirl wears like a permission slip: yes, you can smell like a slushie, yes, you can love that. The reception among early testers skews enthusiastic. One Ulta visitor reported a mechanic asking where the fruity candy smell came from across an auto shop. Another called it 'surprisingly good for a perfume made by a toy company.' There's something disarming about a fragrance that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. Wonder Whirl smells like blue raspberry candy and marshmallow and that's the whole pitch, and people are responding to that honesty.
