The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ab.so.lute. entered Scentologia's Classique collection in 2021, composed by Marzia Tissino. Vanilla and white flowers formed the emotional core, sensual without sweetness, present without aggression. The opening offers aromatic herbs that provide an immediate grounding effect, their green, slightly bitter quality balancing the creamy warmth that follows. As the scent develops, the vanilla emerges with a richness that avoids cloying sweetness, while white flowers add an elegant floral dimension that lifts rather than overwhelms. The interplay between these elements creates a fragrance that feels both intimate and confident, with each layer revealing itself in its own time.
What makes Ab.so.lute. work is the tension between its opening and its base. Cypriol oil opens the composition with a smoky, earthy character that sets a raw tone. Vanilla and white flowers then soften that intensity, offering contrast without apology. Gurjan balsam and guaiac wood in the heart add resinous warmth that draws the composition downward, toward depth. The tobacco and tonka in the base don't arrive as afterthoughts. They're the point.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to the herbs. Sage and bay leaf give way to cypriol's smoky earth, a material that commands attention as the opening act. Then the vanilla emerges, slowly, the way good things do. It doesn't compete with the herbs so much as offer them something to settle into. White flowers arrive mid-development, adding a quiet sweetness that never overwhelms. By hour three, the base takes over. Tobacco, tonka bean, amber, musk. The drydown stays close to skin but refuses to disappear. The cypriol never fully leaves, it deepens, becomes the thread that connects opening to finish.
Cultural impact
Cypriol oil brings a smoky, earthy quality to Ab.so.lute., adding distinctive character. The use of hay notes brings a nostalgic quality, evoking sun-dried fields and rustic barns. Sage and bay leaf anchor the composition with Mediterranean and culinary traditions. The name Ab.so.lute. with its fragmented typography suggests modernity breaking from convention.
