The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Brilliant Gold arrived in 2022 as part of Rasasi's collection, a scent built around the idea that richness should be experienced directly. The name makes the intent clear: this is gold you put on. The composition blends masculine and feminine notes into something that doesn't choose sides. Oud, patchouli, amber, and other materials create a bold, confident presence. Not a quiet composition. Something meant for moments that deserve more than a background scent.
The structure earns attention. Raspberry at the top keeps the opening from taking itself too seriously, a bright, fruity lift that contrasts everything underneath. The heart then shifts the energy: leather and cypriol arrive with quiet authority. Cypriol adds a mineral, slightly smoky earthiness that most Western compositions skip entirely. It bridges the gap between the florals above and the oud below, preventing a jarring transition.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with clarity: raspberry over soft florals, a subtle spice underneath that keeps things from getting too sweet. As time passes the florals begin to recede and the leather steps forward, not harsh, but present, assertive. The patchouli darkens the composition. Cypriol adds a mineral, almost tar-like depth that most Western compositions skip entirely. By the second hour, the hand-off is complete. The leather and cypriol have settled into the skin, and the base takes over: oud, ambergris, vanilla. The ambergris is the tell, an animal warmth that adds presence without loudness. Vanilla keeps it from going too dark. The drydown holds close. Several hours in, the oud reads as warm rather than sharp, and the vanilla has softened into something almost skin-like. Cypriol lingers as a dry, papery whisper at the edges. This is the phase worth waiting for.
Cultural impact
Oud has always signaled status and depth in Arabian perfumery. Brilliant Gold brings that tradition into a modern context, bold enough to hold its own at an evening event, warm enough to feel personal rather than performative. The scent reaches beyond the traditional audience for oud, offering something that feels both contemporary and rooted in tradition.
