The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Golden Era launched in 2023 with a very specific fantasy in mind: the version of you that comes alive somewhere far from home. Evoking faraway places, the scent was conceived as a tropical fusion of coconut and salty skin accords that conjures up paradise. Playboy commissioned Alexandra Monet to bottle that feeling, and the result is a vegan-friendly, ambery floral woody composition that comes across softer, warmer, and more inviting than anything built on the usual loud tropical template. It's a scent built around the idea of escape, not seduction, and the salt note makes sure you feel the ocean even when you're nowhere near it.
What's interesting here is the salt-to-coconut pipeline. Golden Era lets the salt thread through the heart so the coconut reads as actual skin after saltwater, not piña colada. Kumquat and apricot at the top cut the sweetness with citrus snap, giving the opening a tart edge that keeps the tropical notes honest. The jasmine sambac and ylang-ylang add a creamy floral undertow without veering into sunscreen territory, and the roasted tonka bean in the base grounds everything in a warm, edible softness.
The evolution
On skin, the opening is all about that salt-kumquat hit. Briny and bright at once, almost like citrus sprinkled on a warm stone. The apricot softens the edges and keeps things from going austere. Soon after, the ylang-ylang and jasmine sambac start to bloom underneath, and the coconut arrives not as a loud note but as a texture, creamy and faintly tropical, like the memory of a beach afternoon rather than the bottle in your hand. As the hours pass, the salt doesn't disappear. It sinks into the base, mingling with vanilla and roasted tonka bean, and the whole composition turns golden and skin-like. This is the phase most people tend to love: warm, a little gourmand, but still carrying that briny undertone that keeps it from going syrupy.
Cultural impact
Golden Era sits in a sweet spot for people who want something tropical without the usual sweetness overload. Wearers tend to describe it as youthful and a bit cheeky, the kind of scent that feels easy and unforced rather than overworked. It's accessible, vegan-friendly, and unapologetically warm-weather, which makes it a natural pick for anyone stocking a summer rotation. The salty-skin angle gives it a playful edge that fits the brand's identity without leaning on the bunny logo for personality.
