The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Omanluxury released Hommage 1744 to mark the Al Busaid dynasty's founding year, presented in a bottle colored after the Saidi turban. Only 120 individually numbered bottles exist, available exclusively in Oman. Perfumer Théo Belmas built the composition around a natural oud accord, recreated using Headspace technology developed over two years to mirror the character of real agarwood. The result is an oud that doesn't smell reconstructed. It smells like the material itself, which is the entire point of this fragrance.
The Headspace technique matters here because oud's character changes entirely depending on how it's harvested and processed. By capturing the aroma compounds at the source during optimal conditions, the accord achieves something rare in Western perfumery, it smells alive rather than inert. Combined with ambroxan and cashmeran in the base, this gives the drydown a warmth that doesn't read as synthetic or flat.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately. Bergamot, lemon, and honey pomelo arrive together in a burst that's bright without being aggressive. The raspberry nuance sits underneath, softening the citrus edges without competing. As this initial phase gradually shifts, the oud begins to assert itself, not dramatically, but with quiet insistence. In the following hours, white blossoms emerge alongside ambroxan, adding a marine-like clarity that makes the oud read as fresh rather than heavy. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name. Frankincense, cashmeran, and patchouli settle into a warmth that stays close to the skin but projects enough to announce itself in a room. The base notes linger on fabric as the fragrance slowly fades, the final impression holding echoes of the opening and creating a sense of completion.
Cultural impact
Hommage 1744 stands as a powerful expression of Oman's cultural heritage, blending contemporary perfumery with deep-rooted traditions. The fragrance commemorates the Al Busaid dynasty's founding in 1744, connecting modern fragrance artistry to a significant historical moment. Its exclusive 120-bottle release underscores its role as a symbol of national pride during Oman's National Day celebration. The use of Headspace technology to capture oud's essence represents an innovative bridge between heritage and cutting-edge science, bringing the Sultanate's rich perfumery traditions into dialogue with the global niche fragrance community.
