Why it exists.
The beginning
Nymphaea Caerulea takes its name from the blue lotus flower, a water lily species known for its floral sweetness layered with subtle earthy and aquatic freshness. Perfumer Aichi Liu built this 2025 composition around the flower itself, around its quiet strangeness and its ability to hold space without announcing itself. The fragrance reads as OM Parfum's meditation on water that keeps its secrets, on a surface bloom with real depth beneath. There is something still about it, and that stillness is anything but simple. Liu has taken a delicate floral material and surrounded it with resins, woods, and oud, letting the lotus float atop a current far heavier than itself. The result feels like looking down into dark water and seeing something green and golden moving below.
Liu's approach is deliberately unhurried. The formula layers Burmese oud alongside a second oud reference, grounds itself in Omani green frankincense and Siam benzoin, and threads Indian cedarwood together with a second cedarwood voice, giving the composition a stacked architecture rather than a single through-line. Blue lotus absolute anchors the heart, while galbanum and cyclamen sharpen the edges with green static. Italian bergamot opens a small window of light before the incense takes over. This is not a one-note floral.
The evolution
The opening belongs to bergamot, bright and almost ordinary, the kind of citrus lift that signals a safe crowd-pleaser. That promise does not last. Galbanum cuts in green and sharp, followed almost immediately by cyclamen's watery sweetness, and the two together pull the scent away from anything remotely commercial. As the heart opens, frankincense rises through the composition, not aggressively smoky but resinous and meditative, carrying the blue lotus absolute on its back. The lotus itself reads as waxy and honeyed, with a crayon-like backbone rather than the clean white-floral register, more a presence than a pretty accent. Sandalwood and the cedars arrive as the heart deepens, giving the resinous smoke a wooden skeleton that steadies the whole structure. Then the oud surfaces, not in a blast but as a slow undertow, more suggestion than statement.
