The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Les Délices de Nina arrived in 2015 as the latest chapter in an annual ritual: each year, Nina Ricci reinterprets its beloved Nina fragrance through a new limited edition. This year's edition drew its name and its identity from strawberry candy, that specific, nostalgic sweetness of fruit-shaped confectionery. The perfumers Marie Salamagne and Olivier Cresp built the composition around this concept, translating the idea of candy into something you could actually wear: sweet, fruity, and playful without tipping into cloying. The result sits inside the iconic apple-shaped bottle, itself a Nina Ricci signature since 2006, here dressed in soft pink with a caramel-gold finish that mirrors the fragrance within.
The note structure leans into the gourmand register without apology. Strawberry candy and white caramel form the heart, not the sharp, fresh strawberry of an aftershave but the softened, jammy version that smells like the inside of a candy shop. Gardenia adds a floral counterweight, keeping the sweetness from feeling flat. At the base, praline and white musk provide warmth and skin-close intimacy rather than projection. The citrus top notes, lemon and tangerine, arrive first, offering a brief tartness that sharpens the sweetness that follows. It's a well-constructed arc: bright, soft, then warm.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately. Citrus brightness, lemon and tangerine, sparks sharp and sparkling, like fruit sliced in morning light. It lasts maybe twenty minutes before the center takes over. Strawberry candy emerges, joined by gardenia and white caramel. The transition isn't dramatic; it's more like a room that was bright slowly drawing its curtains. Warmth replaces sharpness. Sweetness deepens without becoming heavy. By the third hour, the drydown settles in. Praline and white musk wrap close to the skin. Not projecting much. Not trying to fill the room. This is the stage people either love or find underwhelming depending on what they came for, before fading quietly into a soft praline whisper.
Cultural impact
Les Délices de Nina features a sweet strawberry candy note. The 2015 edition brought this note into focus, highlighting a bright, fruity character that stands out within the brand's lineup. The strawberry is softened by gardenia and white caramel, creating a creamy, slightly tart heart that feels both fresh and
