The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says Tuva. That's southern Siberia, a place where alpine meadows meet the edge of Mongolia, extreme landscapes, improbable flora, the kind of environment that pushes plants to their limits. Natura Siberica built their identity on exactly that: botanicals harvested from the wild, not cultivated. Gold of Tuva takes its cue from the land itself. A fragrance that doesn't ask permission to be itself.
What makes this composition work is the tension between brightness and depth. Bergamot and cardamom open sharp and aromatic, a quick arrival that signals presence without demanding attention. Beneath that, cedar and black tea introduce a quieter complexity, the kind of note that rewards patience rather than announcing itself in the first spray. The frankincense and sandalwood base doesn't compete with the opening. It waits. Then it settles, close to the skin, for hours.
The evolution
The opening hits with bergamot's citrus brightness immediately, bright and commanding. Cardamom and black pepper follow within minutes, the two spices reading warm and aromatic before anything else has a chance to settle. Coriander adds an herbal, slightly citrusy complexity that rounds out the top accord, and camphor delivers a cool medicinal edge that prevents the blend from becoming too heavy. Together, these five notes create an opening that announces itself with clarity and purpose. The heart phase arrives as the citrus recedes. Cedar emerges alongside black tea, the tea offering a slightly bitter, unexpectedly smooth counterpoint to the warmer spice that came before. Milk appears in the transition, lending an almost creamy quality that softens the composition as it moves toward the drydown. The woody notes keep everything grounded, a textured middle that builds rather than fades.
Cultural impact
Natura Siberica draws inspiration from the remote republic of Tuva in southern Siberia, a region known for its throat singing traditions and shamanic heritage. This fragrance translates that sense of distant mystique through its frankincense-forward composition, with the resinous depth of the base notes anchoring the scent in something ancient and grounding. The brand's dedication to Siberian botanicals reflects a commitment to regional identity in fragrance ingredients, sourcing from landscapes that feel both unfamiliar and deeply authentic.
