The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Released in 2024 as part of Morris's Elle Gratia Renasci collection, Elysium translates a Latin word for paradise into something wearable, a scent the house frames as radiating passion through a sugary, feminine lens. The juice delivers a different kind of reach: a confection built to make someone lean in closer. The gourmand heart makes the sweetness unmistakable on first spray, but there's a creamy undertone that keeps it from reading as one-dimensional. Vanilla and caramel anchor the base in something warm and edible, while heliotrope and tonka bean soften the edges with their powdery, almost dessert-like quality. Exotic fruits lift the opening into something sunnier, a quick flash of brightness before the warmer notes take over.
Heliotrope, tonka bean, and caramel do most of the heavy lifting in the composition, and they weave together so tightly that they read as a single ingredient rather than three. Exotic fruits up top give it a sunny lift that keeps the whole thing from tilting too heavy. The interplay between the floral-powder heliotrope and the richer, warmer tones of tonka and caramel creates a sweetness that feels both creamy and slightly toasted, like the last few notes of a dessert rather than the first bite.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately with exotic fruits, a bright, almost jammy burst that reads as tropical and sun-warmed, the sort of sweetness that fills a room before the bottle is even capped. By the 30-minute mark, the heliotrope and lily of the valley step in, softening the fruit into something duskier, the heliotrope reading as vanilla-tinged powder rather than full-blown almond sweetness. The floral pair brings a tender, almost translucent quality to what had been a loud beginning, dialing down the brightness without erasing it. Tonka bean arrives next, adding a low, warm hum that sits just under the heliotrope, sweet and faintly spiced, the kind of note that feels like it's been there all along. The base settles in by hour two: caramel and vanilla wrapped around a quiet sandalwood spine, the kind of drydown that softens everything into a single warm glow.
Cultural impact
Elle Gratia Renasci Elysium arrived in 2024 as part of Morris's Elle Gratia Renasci collection, a women's release aimed at wearers who want sweetness without surrendering structure. The gourmand-fruity composition lands firmly in the lane that has shaped much of the broader market, blending confectionery warmth with sunlit fruit for a profile that reads as both pretty and approachable. Elysium offers a version of that trend with enough character to stand on its own, a fragrance that knows exactly what it wants to be.
