The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Step On Earth emerged from a collaboration between MITH and two French noses, Anne Flipo and Florent Di Marino. The creation aimed to capture something elemental: herbs you can almost taste, warmth you can almost feel. Rose and jasmine anchor the heart, their florals soft and powdery, adding gentle richness without becoming the focus. Hay steadies the base, providing a dry, warm foundation that grounds the composition. The name says it all: stepping onto Thai soil, connecting scent to place and heritage.
What makes Step On Earth interesting is its refusal to commit to one register. The top is all fresh air, lemon, pink pepper, the cool certainty of sage. These notes arrive crisp and bright, creating an opening that feels both invigorating and familiar. The base is warm, powdery, almost intimate. Musk and sandalwood layer into the composition, adding depth and a lasting creaminess that softens the edges. Hay appears here, dry and warm, woven into the amber and wood to create a foundation that feels natural rather than constructed.
The evolution
The opening is quick and confident. Pink pepper and lemon arrive sharp, almost startling, then lavender spreads across the skin like something familiar. Sage follows, adding cool green certainty to the citrus brightness. Within moments, the rose and jasmine emerge, soft, powdery, almost shy against the initial intensity. The floral heart doesn't compete with the opening; instead, it gently takes over, replacing sharpness with warmth. The drydown reveals musk and sandalwood arriving slowly, vetiver adding earthiness and a faint smokiness. The hay becomes more apparent here, not straw but green and warm, like afternoon sun on dry grass. It's still there after many hours, close and quiet, a presence rather than a statement. On fabric, a ghost of amber lingers into the next day.
Cultural impact
Step On Earth arrives as Thai perfumery claims its place in the global niche conversation. MITH, a Bangkok-based house, draws from Southeast Asian botanical traditions while working with French perfumery precision. Anne Flipo and Florent Di Marino, both veterans of French nez tradition, brought structure to MITH's warm, herbal vision. The composition moves between light and weight, airy top notes giving way to intimate base notes. The fragrance's name carries thematic weight, referencing the act of stepping onto Thai soil, connecting scent to place and heritage.
