The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mexx released this spring limited edition in 2012. Perfumers Benoist Lapouza and Nathalie Lorson created a fragrance that embodied the season's promise, something bright, approachable, and wearable without occasion. The scent opens with crisp citrus that feels like morning sunlight on skin. Grapefruit brings an immediate zest that awakens the senses, while blackcurrant adds a subtle berry undertone that prevents the top notes from feeling too sharp. Freesia emerges gently, weaving in a soft floral quality that tempers the brightness without dimming it. As the fragrance develops, lily of the valley and rose take center stage, with apple lending a crisp, natural sweetness that feels intentional without being heavy.
The grapefruit-blackcurrant-freesia combination is deceptively simple. Grapefruit brings sharp, almost bracing citrus that lifts the composition immediately. Blackcurrant adds a tart, slightly earthy berry note that grounds what could otherwise feel too airy. Freesia bridges the two, a floral with a clean, cool character that reads green without being herbal. Together, these top notes create an opening that feels like morning: bright, awake, ready. The heart of lily of the valley, rose, and apple keeps things crisp and feminine without tipping into sweetness. The base, rosewood, peach blossom, amber, adds warmth that extends the wear without heavy projection.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and immediate. Grapefruit zings first, sharp, clean, citrus-bright. Blackcurrant joins with its tart berry depth, tempering the citrus. Freesia appears, softening everything with its delicate floral presence. The transition to the heart unfolds gradually as lily of the valley and rose emerge, apple adding a crisp sweetness that feels natural, not synthetic. The mid-section holds as the longest phase, the most linear part of the fragrance. No dramatic shifts. The composition moves toward a warm, intimate drydown as rosewood arrives quietly in the base, carrying peach blossom and amber into a soft conclusion. The florals linger on fabric longer than on skin, a faded spring that eventually becomes a memory. The scent evolves with each wearing, the note transitions revealing new facets while maintaining the same elegant restraint throughout.
