The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Près du Soleil translates to "near the sun," and the name does the heavy lifting before the first spritz. Mango built this one for the Mediterranean mood: late morning, a terrace catching light, the kind of warmth that hasn't yet become heat. Jérôme Di Marino composed the fragrance in 2021, threading pear and peony through jasmine and violet to land somewhere between a fruit bowl on a marble counter and the cool side of a pillow. Part of the Mémoires de la Méditerranée collection, it sits among Mango's lighter, more casual offerings, a study in restraint rather than spectacle.
What makes the composition quietly clever is how its notes settle into one another. Pear opens the fragrance with that cool, green snap you get from fruit still holding its morning chill, a brightness that never quite leaves but slowly shifts in character. Peony and violet arrive in the heart, lending soft, powdery sweetness, while Tunisian jasmine weaves through with a creamy, indolic warmth that rounds out the florals without overpowering them.
The evolution
The opening is the brightest the fragrance gets. Pear hits first, green and watery, almost like biting into fruit still cool from a morning fridge. It reads alongside the violet, which adds a candied, almost chalky edge. Within ten or fifteen minutes, the peony swells in, lifting the whole thing into a soft white-floral register that feels less like a scent and more like a mood. Tunisian jasmine threads through, but stays behind the peony, lending warmth without the indolic sharpness jasmine sometimes carries. The first hour is the floral phase, powdery and sweet, with the pear retreating but never fully disappearing. By hour three, sandalwood takes the floor. It arrives creamy, slightly milky, blending with what remains of the violet to create a skin-scent quality. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its place. It becomes almost a whisper, a clean, warm, vaguely woody musk that clings to fabric. On clothes the next morning, it reads as soft sandalwood with a trace of dried pear skin, intimate and unhurried.
Cultural impact
Près du Soleil finds its audience among wearers who want something that smells like a mood rather than a statement. The Mediterranean framing resonates with anyone drawn to easy, sun-warmed florals that don't try to prove anything. There's a softness to how the fragrance presents itself, a quality that rewards those who lean in rather than waiting for the scent to announce itself. The pear-and-jasmine pairing evokes the feeling of a terrace in late afternoon, where the fruit trees are in bloom and the air carries both sweetness and greenness at once.
