The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Royal Orchid arrived in 2022 as Maison de Amalric's tribute to the rare bloom that crowns imperial gardens. The unisex Eau de Parfum was crafted by a collaborative team from dsm-firmenich, Givaudan, IFF and the boutique house Argeville, aiming to capture the orchid's regal poise through a contrast of sacred and sensual materials. The brief was to honor restraint, working only with notes that earned their place in the final composition.
Maison de Amalric's note philosophy prioritizes intentionality over abundance. With Royal Orchid, tonka bean and incense create an opening meant to unsettle expectations, while labdanum and oud form a heart built for warmth and depth. The honey-leather drydown represents the house's final commitment: a finish that is Intimate, grounded, and unmistakably present.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with tonka bean's gentle sweetness meeting the cool, aromatic smoke of incense. These two notes establish a tension that carries the wearer through the fragrance's first act. As the heart emerges, labdanum's amber-resin depth takes over alongside a quieter oud presence that grounds the composition without leaning on heavier comparisons. As hours pass, honey softens the trajectory before leather arrives to leave a lasting, almost animalic impression on the skin. The orchid reveals itself not in a single moment but across the entire arc.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Royal Orchid has sparked conversation among niche enthusiasts for its bold sweet‑leathery blend. Wearers often note its polarizing mix of honey‑kissed leather and smoky oud, positioning it as a niche staple for those seeking an elegant yet daring unisex scent that stands out without shouting.
