Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud designed Sur la Route around a specific departure, not the destination, not the arrival. The road itself. When you leave a place, what's the moment after the door closes and before the engine warms up? That's what he wanted to capture. The house calls it the emotion of travel, and Sur la Route is exactly that: a fragrance for the threshold. Citrus at the opening, then grass, then something leather and woody underneath. Arriving without having left.

The name means 'on the road' in French, a travel phrase that carries both motion and possibility. Cavallier-Belletrud composed it in Grasse at Les Fontaines Parfumées, the house's historic estate, using materials from their exclusive supply network. What makes it interesting is the transition: the citrus doesn't disappear so much as get absorbed by everything that follows. The drydown isn't a separate fragrance, it's the same scent, older.

Sur la Route opens bright, immediate, almost sharp. Bergamot and lemon hit together, with a pink pepper note that keeps the citrus from being flat. This lasts about thirty minutes before the grassy quality arrives and softens everything. The heart phase, hedione, sage, a hint of cardamom, is the longest stretch, clean and transparent, like morning light through a window. Then the base announces itself slowly: cedar emerging first, followed by leather that's soft rather than aggressive. The patchouli and Peru balsam create warmth that settles close to the skin. The drydown lasts 6-8 hours on most skin types, quieter than the opening but more personal. It's the kind of fragrance that someone standing next to you notices before someone across the room.

Since its 2018 debut, Sur la Route has been discussed as a luxury citrus with a refined, understated character, the kind that rewards attention rather than announcing itself. Some wearers find the leather and grassy notes polarizing; others consider it the most versatile masculine release from the house. The moderate sillage and refined drydown suit office and daytime wear, praised for its craftsmanship by enthusiasts who appreciate understated luxury work over bold statements.
