The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
When Jacques Cavallier Belletrud returned Louis Vuitton to perfumery in 2016, he brought the iris with him. Spell On You was his declaration, a study in powdery florals stripped to their most essential form. For 2025, the fragrance gets a second act: a limited collector's edition dressed in Takashi Murakami's cherry blossoms. The bottle changes. The scent stays.
What makes Spell On You V.2 interesting is the iris structure. Rather than an iris that announces itself at the opening, here it operates as a foundation, a powdery, slightly earthy substrate that runs through the entire composition. The doubled iris (Tuscan in both top and heart) creates a continuous through-line instead of the typical note-by-note reveal. Rose adds romantic tartness. Peach and white musk in the base keep everything skin-close and warm.
The evolution
The opening is all powder. Violet and green notes give the iris a dewy lift, the feeling of morning light through a window, before it settles. Within twenty minutes, jasmine and rose push forward, softening the green and adding depth. The rose is not shouty; it reads more like a memory of roses than a fresh-cut bouquet. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its reputation. Acacia and peach round the edges. White musk anchors everything close, intimate, warm, the kind of sillage that someone standing next to you will notice before they see you. It's quieter than it is loud, but never short of unforgettable. The way it evolves on the skin reveals layers that weren't apparent at first spray, a subtle transformation that rewards patience and close attention.
Cultural impact
Spell On You V.2 arrives as a limited collector's edition, its bottle and packaging dressed in Takashi Murakami's iconic cherry blossom motifs. The collaboration between luxury and contemporary art transforms the fragrance into a coveted object, where the visual identity is as compelling as the scent within. When the composition returns to the iris-rose structure that defined the original Spell On You, it honors the house's signature while offering something new for those who already appreciate its character.
