The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The number 27 kept appearing. A roulette table in Macao, a dazzling red dress, a shared luck that turned into something more. That's the story woven into this fragrance, not invented, but drawn from the brand's own narrative tradition. Mirella Pomina was given the brief: translate a night of chance and connection into scent. The oriental-fruity composition had to carry both the electricity of the table and the warmth that followed. Coffee and pepper for the stakes. Lychee and peach for the sweetness. Vetiver for something that lingers, the way a memory does.
What makes 27 In Macao distinctive is its willingness to hold two energies at once. The coffee-pepper opening is sharp, almost bracing, the moment before the bet. But underneath, lychee and mandarin orange add a sweetness that reframes everything. It's not a fragrance that chooses between tension and ease. The peony heart is doing quiet work here too, keeping the ginger and warm spices from overwhelming the composition. Meanwhile, ambergris in the base gives the drydown a weight that feels expensive and animalic without being crude. The vetiver adds smoke. The peach adds fruit. Together they build something that smells like the end of a night worth having.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, coffee, black pepper, cardamom. Thirty minutes in, the lychee arrives to soften everything. The mandarin orange hangs in the background, bright and fleeting. By the second hour, the peony and ginger take over, and the composition shifts from electric to graceful. The vetiver and ambergris arrive last, around hour three, and this is where the fragrance earns its longevity. The smoky-vetiver and warm ambergris hold the drydown for hours after the fruit and florals fade. On fabric, the peach note can linger into the next day.
Cultural impact
Part of the Histoire Privée collection, 27 In Macao occupies a specific space in the niche fragrance world: oriental-fruity with strong projection and longevity. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who takes a risk and enjoys the outcome. The coffee-pepper opening and warm amber-peach drydown make it most suited to evening wear and cooler seasons.
