Why it exists.
The beginning
The perfumer credit on Indulgence goes to Alina Korol. She operates in independent perfumery and lets her compositions carry the conversation. The formula makes its intentions clear from the first spray: chocolate and lactone reach for sweetness without apology, the kind of opening that treats comfort as a serious subject rather than a guilty one. Then the composition pivots. Five woody and resinous notes enter the middle register, pulling the confectionary warmth down into something heavier, more grounded. The structure moves from sugar to substance fast. By the time the base arrives, tonka and white musk have absorbed everything that came before and rebalanced it.
What makes Indulgence structurally interesting is the sheer density of wood in the heart. Cashmere wood, cedarwood, frankincense, sandalwood, and suede all occupy the same middle register, working simultaneously rather than rotating through. That's a lot of texture competing for the same real estate. Five different woody and resinous materials, each bringing its own character, all expected to coexist without one flattening the others.
The evolution
The opening hits with chocolate and lactone in a way that reads almost confectionary, like a ganache center that hasn't fully set. The lactone gradually turns creamier, less overtly sweet, as the wood structure begins to surface from underneath. The chocolate gets absorbed into the woody heart, and what remains is something more complex. The frankincense lifts slightly during this transition, giving the whole composition a smoky, resinous warmth, while the sandalwood and cashmere wood create a plush, almost suede-like texture underneath. Cedarwood provides the structural spine that keeps everything from collapsing into pure sweetness. The fragrance settles into a groove where it stays remarkably consistent: warm, woody, slightly sweet, with that frankincense smoke threading through like a low fire.
Cultural impact
Indulgence is a gourmand composition that refuses the usual playbook. Where most chocolate-forward fragrances lean heavily in one direction, either pure sweetness or pure smoke, this one threads both simultaneously, reading more like a late-night playlist than a dessert course. The fragrance earns its place through the tension between its indulgent top and its serious architecture underneath.
