The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Litchee is a fragrance from Kokeshi's collaboration with Jeremy Scott. The scent centers on lychee, presented in its most essential form, bright, translucent, and unmistakably tropical. Blackcurrant provides a tart counterpoint, keeping the sweetness grounded. Jasmine softens the transition, while cedarwood adds quiet depth. The overall impression is uncomplicated and inviting. The composition prioritizes clarity over complexity, letting each note exist in its own space rather than competing for attention. What emerges is a fragrance that feels both refreshing and warm, approachable without sacrificing sophistication. The tropical fruit notes feel juicy and immediate, while the floral and woody elements provide just enough structure to keep the scent from feeling ephemeral.
The note structure is stripped back on purpose. Where most fruity-florals layer three or four heart notes and build toward a complex drydown, Litchee stays almost transparent. Lychee opens, jasmine arrives, cedarwood anchors. That's the whole arc. The composition achieves simplicity through careful balance rather than abundance. The lychee and blackcurrant work together without overwhelming each other, creating a scent that feels cohesive and intentional. There's no attempt to build toward elaborate complexity; instead, the fragrance moves in a gentle, unhurried progression.
The evolution
First spray: blackcurrant hits first, sharp and juicy, followed immediately by lychee's softer sweetness. The combination is fruit-forward without being childish, more farmers market than candy aisle. Within the first hour, jasmine takes over as the structural backbone, subtly reshaping the composition into something warmer and more floral. The transition isn't dramatic; it's a slow hand-off. By hours three and four, cedarwood moves into the foreground, dry, slightly papery, unexpectedly grounding. On fabric, the cedarwood can linger long after the fruit has faded, a quiet reminder that this fragrance had more depth than its opening suggested.
Cultural impact
Litchee arrived as part of Kokeshi's debut collection, a collaboration with designer Jeremy Scott. The fragrance offers a different approach to the fruity-floral category, distilling the lychee experience to its essence: bright, sweet, immediate. Rather than building toward complexity, it presents its core notes with clarity and directness. This approach challenges assumptions about what makes perfume compelling, suggesting that simplicity can be just as engaging as elaborate construction. The scent invites wearers to experience lychee in its purest form, without embellishment or distraction.
