The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tulua means 'rising' in Arabic, the sun climbing, light spilling forward. Kinetic Perfumes built this around the Italian concept of dolce far niente, that deliberate sweetness of doing nothing in particular. But there's a twist: Tulua isn't about the languor. It's about the warmth that follows, the way a day promises something and then delivers. The citrus opens bright and clean, then yields to a heart of fior di latte ice cream and white florals, finishing on cedar, ambergris, and vetiver. It's the shape of a perfect day, from first light to last warmth.
What makes Tulua work is the lactonic note, that cold, milky sweetness of ice cream, playing against bright citrus. The combination is unexpected in the best way. It's not trying to be a dessert fragrance. It's trying to be a summer memory. Magnolia and jasmine provide the soft middle, the white blooms that make the cream feel floral rather than heavy. The amber base is the glue, the warmth that makes everything cohere. And the base notes, cedar, ambergris, vetiver, give it weight without heaviness.
The evolution
The citrus doesn't wait. Bergamot, Amalfi lemon, and green mandarin arrive sharp and sparkling, like spumante, like sunlight on water. Then the hand-off. The lactonic note in the heart isn't subtle. It's cold cream, sweet, a little sugared. The magnolia and jasmine bloom around it, softening the sweetness into something more floral. Cedar starts to arrive in the drydown, along with ambergris, that slightly animalic, marine warmth that keeps the sweetness from cloying. The vetiver grounds everything. Hours in, this is intimate. Close to the skin. The kind of wear that someone standing near you will notice before you do. It's the kind of fragrance that invites someone to lean in closer, to ask what you're wearing.
Cultural impact
Tulua Limited Edition arrives as a statement about what fragrance can be. Kinetic Perfumes, under the direction of Chris Maurice, built this around the Italian concept of dolce far niente, that deliberate sweetness of purposeful inactivity. The citrus-to-ice cream handoff in the heart structure speaks to an appreciation for sensory pleasure without pretense. It's a reminder that the finest experiences often come from intentional stillness, from choosing to be present rather than productive.
