The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Twenty years after Morillas cracked the impossible brief of Flower by Kenzo, creating scent from a flower with no odor, he returned to the poppy field with a different question. What if we could bottle the energy itself? Dora Baghriche joined him, and together they built something that smells like a market at dawn. Alive. Rustic. Still carrying the morning mist.
Green almond and tea leaf are an unusual pairing. The almond gives the opening a texture that feels like morning light through leaves rather than a synthetic citrus burst. Mandarins cut through clean, then the florals arrive in a rush, jasmine and gardenia layered generously, Bulgarian rose deepening everything without tipping into heaviness. The white musk and cedar base does something quietly clever: it softens the florals without making them disappear. They're still there, just warm and close, like flowers held against skin.
The evolution
The opening is crisp and immediate. Mandarin orange and green almond create a citrus-adjacent brightness that doesn't announce itself loudly. Within minutes, the jasmine and gardenia arrive, a generous cascade, their sweetness tempered by something green underneath. Not stem, exactly. More like the memory of where they grew. Bulgarian rose adds depth without overwhelming the composition. As the florals soften, white musk and cedar emerge to shape the drydown. The musk creates a powdery softness that feels intimate rather than overwhelming. Cedar lingers quietly in the background, adding warmth without projecting. The overall sensation is close to the skin, the kind of presence that someone standing near you might notice before you do. Lasting power holds through a full workday on most skin types, with the almond wood warmth persisting longest into the evening.
Cultural impact
Kenzo sits in a distinctive position, neither heritage French house nor modern niche brand. The house has always been more democratic, refusing intimidation in favor of joy. Flower by Kenzo remains their signature across generations. Poppy Bouquet continues that legacy in a way that feels current without chasing trends.
