Why it exists.
The beginning
Summer Sangria arrived in 2017 as part of Ganache Parfums' early exploration of gourmand territory beyond the obvious dessert cases. Jarekhye Covarrubias, already building a catalogue of edible-inspired compositions, turned toward the fruit bowl this time. The inspiration reads in pure ingredients: ripe peaches, Moscato catching light in a glass, strawberries split open, a slab of cedar for the table. It was an exercise in letting fruit carry the structure rather than serve as an accent to something heavier. The opening swings sweet and golden, the peach arriving soft and warm while the Moscato adds a lifted, almost sparkling sweetness that keeps the fruit from sitting flat on the skin.
The structure is what separates this from a generic fruit splash. Moscato and peach get the loud billing in the top notes, but the heart anchors them with white wine, artemisia, and strawberry. The artemisia adds a bitter-herbal edge, a cooling counterweight that keeps the sweetness from collapsing into syrup. Davana enters somewhere in the heart as well, a lesser-used material that smells like fermented fruit with a boozy undertone, the kind of note that makes a composition feel alive rather than static.
The evolution
On skin, the opening belongs to Moscato and peach, both treated with enough restraint to feel lifted rather than flabby. The Moscato does something interesting here. It smells less like wine than like the smell of wine on someone's breath after the second glass, sweet but with a faint fermentation buzz underneath. Cedar arrives early too, giving the opening a dry wooden frame that keeps the fruit from feeling candied. As the composition wears on, strawberry and white wine step forward, softening everything into something closer to jam spread on warm bread than sangria fresh in a pitcher. The artemisia surfaces as a cooling, slightly bitter thread, a green herbal note that slices through the jammy sweetness. White musk builds underneath, and the whole thing starts to read like skin warmth filtered through laundry that was dried outside on a good day. The drydown is the surprise.
