The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Prive collection is Flavia's numbered series, each fragrance a different territory explored. Prive No11 arrived in 2024 as a study in contrasts: bright citrus against resinous depth, spice against florals. The number suggests intention, like a perfumer's notebook where each entry stands alone.
What makes the composition work is the frankincense. In many amber fragrances, the base becomes a sweet blur. Here, the Olibanum cuts through, not aggressively, but with enough presence to keep everything honest. Guaiac Wood adds a smoky, slightly tar-like depth that most mass-market ambers skip entirely. This is the kind of base that justifies a 100 ml bottle.
The evolution
The opening hits clean and direct, citron, bergamot, orange delivering immediate brightness. No hesitation. No waiting. Around the 15-minute mark, the ginger arrives, sharp and warm, taking the edge off the citrus without replacing it. By 30 to 45 minutes, the neroli softens the spice while the cinnamon adds body. This is the longest phase, a few hours of warm florals with an undercurrent of heat. Around hour three, the base notes arrive. Frankincense, amber, and guaiac wood form a warm, resinous foundation that shifts the entire fragrance. The amber adds sweetness without cloying. The guaiac wood brings a faint smoky edge. The frankincense lingers. On most skin, this fragrance holds for 6 to 8 hours with above-average projection that fades to intimate by the final stretch. The next morning, there's still something warm and resinous on the skin, a ghost of the drydown, not quite gone.
Cultural impact
Prive No11 sits in the middle of the Prive collection, not the boldest statement, not the softest. What sets it apart is the frankincense in the base. In a market where amber often means sweet warmth, this one adds resin and edge. Wearers who gravitate toward it tend to want warmth without losing character.
