The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mubakhar is a traditional Gulf scent ritual, the slow burning of woodchips and aromatic blends to perfume a room, a garment, a guest. It's hospitality made visible, a fragrance offered before a word is spoken. The ritual has lived in incense burners and on bakhoor plates for generations, filling majlis and homes with resinous smoke that lingers long after the embers cool. Emirates Pride named this 2026 release Future Mubakhar because the practice itself carries a weight that perfume can borrow from, the warmth of welcome condensed into something pourable. Frankincense leads because frankincense always leads in mubakhar, bright and almost mentholated at the start, before softening into the deeper, denser smoke that follows.
What makes this composition worth attention is the layering of frankincense with Akigalawood and oud in the base. Akigalawood is a reconstituted note derived from patchouli, carrying a smooth, woody-spicy warmth that sits between resin and wood in the drydown. Pairing it here bridges the resinous frankincense opening with the deeper oud-musk base, so the transition reads intentional rather than abrupt, each phase handing off cleanly to the next.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are dominated by frankincense, sharp and almost mentholated, with pink pepper adding a clean heat that keeps the opening from feeling heavy. Sage threads through quietly, green and slightly medicinal, the kind of herbal note that makes you think of dried bundles rather than fresh garden. By the second hour the cedarwood and cypriol take over, and the scent shifts from smoke to wood, drier, earthier, with a papery texture that clings to fabric. The oud arrives in stages, not all at once, and by the fourth hour it's the main voice, rich and slightly animalic, sitting on a bed of amber and musk. Akigalawood smooths the transition so the whole composition feels continuous rather than segmented, its woody-spicy character threading the early resin and the late base together.
Cultural impact
Future Mubakhar sits at a specific intersection: heritage ritual rendered for daily wear. The Mubakhar reference is well understood across the Gulf, where burning scented wood to welcome guests is as common as offering coffee, a gesture that carries meaning beyond the smoke itself. Naming a 2026 fragrance after that practice grounds the release in continuity, a vocabulary that Gulf audiences recognize instantly and that signals the house still draws from those well-established traditions.
