The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
La Luna, the moon, arrived in 2016 from Alfredo Monteiro Filho and Ciclo Cosméticos. Named for the night sky's quietest light, this fragrance translates moonlight into something warm and approachable. Not cold, not distant. The kind of moon that makes you want to sit outside and stay a while. Ciclo Cosméticos built La Luna as part of a broader mission: bringing quality fragrance to everyday Brazilian life, without ceremony or exclusivity. The moon was the perfect metaphor, it belongs to everyone.
What makes La Luna interesting is how the heart notes play against each other. Strawberry and vanilla create an obvious sweetness, but rose and orchid introduce a quiet complexity. Passionfruit pushes into tropical territory without tipping into cartoonish fruitiness. The result is a fragrance that reads as sweet from the first spray but reveals subtle botanical depth as it settles. It's not trying to be sophisticated, it's simply more interesting than it first appears.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and juicy, pear, tangerine, and bergamot arrive together, the citrus creating an immediate sparkle that feels like light catching water. Within 30 minutes, the fruity sweetness takes over. Strawberry and vanilla blend into something almost edible, while rose and orchid add a quiet floral elegance that prevents the composition from becoming saccharine. The passionfruit surfaces in the background, a tropical whisper that gives the heart depth. Two hours in, the drydown anchors everything. Caramel and praline create a warm, creamy sweetness, but patchouli grounds it, earthy, slightly bitter, keeping the sweetness from lifting off the skin. Vanilla and litchi linger close, intimate, the kind of scent that stays for hours on warm skin or fabric.
Cultural impact
La Luna arrived in 2016 during a surge of interest in accessible Brazilian fragrances, positioning Ciclo Cosméticos as a serious contender in the Latin American market. The scent tapped into a broader cultural moment celebrating warmth and approachability in perfumery, moving away from intimidating luxury associations. Its Oriental Vanilla direction reflected a global trend while adding regional character through passionfruit and orchid accents. The fragrance found favor among younger consumers seeking sophistication without exclusivity, embodying a democratic vision of scent appreciation.
