The beginning
DCCLIII Per La Donna was launched in 2018 as part of Carlo Colucci's first themed pairing, the DCCLIII line. DCCLIII refers to 753 BC, the traditional founding year of Rome, the moment the brand frames as the birth of modern opulence. Per La Donna sits alongside its masculine counterpart, Per L'Uomo, as the feminine half of a shared concept. The composition was built to read like an ancient monument, perfect, powerful, fascinating and lasting, according to the brand's own framing. The opening presents raspberry in a clean, unsweetened form, sharp and slightly fermented, more like the smell of crushed berries left in a bowl than anything jammy. Within minutes the rose arrives, folded into clove and Ceylon cinnamon so tightly that none of them reads as a separate accord.
What makes the DCCLIII Per La Donna composition structurally interesting is how few notes do the heavy lifting. Raspberry carries the opening, and the first contact feels almost edible, like the seedy sweetness of fruit held close to the nose. Then the heart layers rose, clove, Ceylon cinnamon, sandalwood, amber, musk, and patchouli into a single warm-spicy chord. The spices don't decorate the rose so much as the rose gives them somewhere to land, and the cinnamon's dry heat keeps the sweetness from tipping into syrup.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all raspberry, bright and slightly sharp, like a fruit that's been sugared but not cooked. Within the hour, the rose arrives and the cinnamon starts threading through, turning the sweetness warmer and less obvious. By the second hour, the clove has settled into the background and the sandalwood begins anchoring everything to skin. The amber arrives gradually, resinous and slightly sweet, wrapping the spices in something that feels less like a chord and more like a single sustained tone. Musk rises underneath, close and slightly soapy, adding a skin-like intimacy that makes the drydown feel personal rather than performed. The projection softens early but the scent itself refuses to quit, lingering in a warm haze for hours after the sillage has dropped. Longevity is described as above-average, and the base holds its shape well into the late hours.
