The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
By Far's 2022 collection sought to bottle fleeting memories, and perfumer Caroline Dumur turned to the playground for inspiration. The chalk-dust scent of a hopscotch game became the concept, translating the bright, carefree energy of childhood into scent. Dumur chose galbanum and pear to capture that initial rush of energy, the moment before play begins. The name anchors the fragrance to a childhood vignette, inviting wearers to revisit that specific moment of possibility.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of contrast. Green galbanum and juicy pear create an opening that feels immediate and alive, while clay and almond ground the composition in unexpected materiality. This juxtaposition of the delicate and the tactile captures the essence of daydreaming itself, that state between memory and imagination. Geranium bridges the opening and heart with its versatile character, equally at home in garden settings and abstract fragrance compositions. The warm, enveloping drydown of vanilla, amber, and tonka bean provides the emotional resolution, transforming a fleeting moment into something that stays with you.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with a sharp, green jolt from galbanum that immediately recalls the smell of fresh air on a playground. Pear softens this brightness with natural sweetness, like fruit carried in a pocket. As the minutes pass, clay emerges from the heart, grounding the composition in earthiness that feels both modern and unexpectedly nostalgic. Almond weaves through, adding an edible quality that hints at snack times and simpler pleasures. Geranium brings arosaceous nuance, keeping the heart from becoming too heavy. The drydown reveals why this fragrance earns its name: vanilla, amber, and tonka bean wrap the wearer in warmth, like the lingering comfort of a fond memory long after the game has ended.
Cultural impact
Daydream of a Hopscotch sparked conversation for its bold Play‑Doh inspired heart, dividing noses between those who adore the nostalgic clay vibe and those who find it too toy‑like. Its sweet‑gourmand finish, however, has become a favorite for creative types seeking a scent that feels both youthful and refined, earning it a spot in boutique pop‑ups and online scent‑talk forums.
