The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Before Sunrise launched in 2021, signed by Adam Bujairami. This one leans a different direction from what you might expect. The name borrows from a quiet, golden-hour feeling rather than a place, and the brief seems to have been softness, not statement. The name itself sets the tone: contemplative rather than declarative, something that doesn't raise itself above the wearer. The composition is a woody fragrance built around blueberry, orris, and vanilla, with bamboo threading through the middle like a cool green breath between the warm parts. There's a literary quality to how it's put together, more about texture and atmosphere than volume. The opening carries that lifted citrus sparkle from the lemon, which gives the blueberry a fresh edge before the deeper, creamier elements settle in.
What makes the structure interesting is the unusual pairing of blueberry with orris root. Here the fruit gets pulled into something cooler and more mineral by the iris butter's powdery weight, and the effect is unexpectedly modern. Lemon lifts the top so the blueberry reads as fresh rather than jam-like, a single bright note that keeps the opening from turning too sweet. Then bamboo adds a green, almost watery clarity that keeps the whole composition from sinking into sweetness.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are where the blueberry earns its keep. It arrives cold and slightly tart, buoyed by lemon zest, and the immediate impression is a glass of crushed fruit over crushed ice. By the 30-minute mark, the lemon has receded and the orris takes over, and the whole composition tips into its powder phase. You get that violet-tinged, cosmetic softness that makes everything feel dusted in pale pigment, a kind of blurred iris veil settling over the fruit. The bamboo never really announces itself; you sense it more as a coolness in the air around the other notes, a faint green exhale between the fruit and the powder. It's the kind of note that works through absence, through the space it leaves behind rather than anything it puts forward.
Cultural impact
Before Sunrise sits in an interesting space. It borrows from a contemplative, literary sensibility, and external sources note a connection to Vilhelm Parfumerie's Poets of Berlin, though that attribution comes from outside listings rather than an official page. That reference point matters for how you might approach the scent. It positions this not as a loud, projecting composition but as an accessible, powdery-woody fragrance aimed at the kind of wearer who wants softness and longevity without volume. The composition rewards that sensibility.
