The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Borussia Dortmund has its colors, its stadium, its anthem. In 2018, Bruno Banani bottled a piece of that for the fans. The BVB Fan Edition was a collector's piece, an eau de toilette aimed at the stands. Thierry Wasser, who signed off on the juice, composed a straightforward floral built around water lily, orange, lily of the valley, freesia, peach, white musk, and vanilla. The top notes open with a clean, bright lift from the orange, supported by the cool, almost translucent quality of water lily. It's the kind of opening that registers immediately on skin, carrying just enough freshness to feel like a spritz rather than a statement. Then the heart unfolds.
What makes this composition worth a second look is its restraint. Water lily and orange up top, bright and clean, then a heart of lily of the valley, freesia, and peach. The base keeps it simple, white musk and vanilla, no heavy woods, no resinous anchor. The freesia contributes a peppery, slightly hay-like lift that keeps the florals from collapsing into a single indistinct white note, while the lily of the valley adds that cool, dewy green facet that reads almost cucumbery in the background.
The evolution
On skin, the opening arrives quickly, a brisk hit of orange lifted by water lily, bright and clean, the kind of entry that registers within the first few minutes. Water lily softens that crispness, turning the citrus into something rounder and slightly dewy without losing its freshness. The heart then settles in, with lily of the valley and freesia doing most of the work, white and clean but with enough complexity to keep things interesting. The freesia adds a peppery, almost hay-like edge that keeps the florals from feeling generic, while the lily of the valley contributes its cool green facet. Peach moves underneath both, a soft stonefruit warmth that stops the whole accord from going austere. It smells like a warm afternoon, slightly sweet, nothing heavy. As the florals begin to recede, the base takes its place.
Cultural impact
The BVB Fan Edition was a licensed collector's piece for supporters of Borussia Dortmund. Released as a limited-run eau de toilette tied to the club, it represented one of the more visible intersections of mass-market fragrance and football merchandising, giving fans a wearable extension of their matchday identity. The fragrance itself leans light and approachable, with water lily and orange up top, a heart of lily of the valley, freesia, and peach, and a base of white musk and vanilla.
