The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
My Fave Sweater began as a passion project inside the Boathouse studio, a small indie house known for leaning into evocative, place-based storytelling. The perfumer wanted to bottle the specific comfort of pulling your favorite knit on a chilly October morning, the garment you reach for again and again because it fits just right. Sourcing real blood orange essence proved tricky. Most commercial blood orange oils lean candy-sweet or artificial, so the team had to hunt for a version that read closer to the actual fruit, tart and a little bitter at the edges, the way a ripe rind smells when you split it open with your thumbnail. Cardamom was another early obsession, chosen for its ability to bridge the bright citrus with something warmer and more grounded.
The Boathouse creative team treated My Fave Sweater less like a fragrance launch and more like a small object of affection. Everything about the project was built around that sense of intimacy, from the way the scent was composed to the way it was introduced. The juice itself reads warm and a little hazy, the color of late autumn light spilling across a hardwood floor. On skin, it behaves like a memory rather than a statement, settling in close rather than announcing itself across a room.
The evolution
When My Fave Sweater first hit Boathouse's online store, it found an audience that clearly connected with its particular brand of comfort. Returning customers helped build momentum over time, many posting photos of their bottles alongside the actual sweater that inspired the purchase. The fragrance found a particularly devoted audience among readers who described it as their fall signature, something they reached for the moment the air turned crisp. Over the seasons, Boathouse let the original breathe rather than rushing to expand the line. The house showed restraint, treating the composition as a finished thought rather than a starting point for endless variations. That patience became part of the scent's identity, a signal that Boathouse believed in the original enough to let it stand on its own.
Cultural impact
My Fave Sweater found its audience during a period when readers were actively seeking out small, narrative-driven scents, and Boathouse answered that call with a fragrance that wore its story openly. The composition centers on a simple, evocative premise: the comfort of a favorite knit on a cold morning, the kind of garment you instinctively reach for when the weather shifts. That clarity gave the scent a kind of emotional shorthand, allowing wearers to communicate a mood without having to explain it.
