The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Love Poison arrived in 2015 from Boadicea the Victorious, the house named for the warrior queen who refused to be conquered. The name says everything. This isn't a shy fragrance, not a subtle one, it's the scent of someone who knows exactly what they want and takes it without apology. The composition centers on a tension: fruit and florals that could compete, yet somehow amplify each other instead. Poison suggests something you don't see coming. Something sweet that undoes you before you realize what's happened.
What makes Love Poison work is restraint within abundance. Seven base notes could easily collapse into noise, but the formula holds them together. Bourbon vanilla and brown sugar give it depth without heaviness. Labdanum, a resinous note, appears at the base to remind you this isn't a purely floral fragrance. The amber anchors everything, creating warmth that travels close to the skin rather than filling the room. It's a composition that knows when to stop talking.
The evolution
Love Poison opens with a rush. Red berries and bergamot arrive in quick succession, citrus cutting through the fruit so it reads as bright rather than sweet. The cinnamon and cumin add a warmth that stays present throughout, though neither is aggressive enough to alarm. Within twenty minutes, jasmine and Turkish rose take over, the rose particularly jammy, almost gourmand in character. This is the fragrance's peak. The white florals bloom fully, orange blossom adding its waxy, romantic weight. Then labdanum and amber arrive to slow things down. The vanilla and brown sugar become more pronounced, but the resinous base keeps them from becoming syrupy. The drydown is warm, sweet, and close. It fades to a soft musk-and-sandalwood whisper that lingers overnight.
Cultural impact
Love Poison is a distinctive entry in the Boadicea the Victorious lineup, combining sweet fruity notes with warm florals and amber. The combination makes it stand out, a fragrance that leans into its concept. Wearers describe it as the kind of scent that announces presence without requiring announcement, suitable for cooler months and evening occasions where presence matters.
