The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bijan VIP Women arrived as part of a paired launch, matching his and hers versions. Bijan Pakzad designed fragrance as part of the complete wardrobe, never loud, always considered. The Women's version was conceived as a softer counterpart to the Men's, but softer didn't mean weak. It meant deliberate. The fruit-floral-gourmand structure was built around plum and blackcurrant for richness, tiare and jasmine for depth, vanilla and amber for warmth that would linger without overwhelming. There is something confident in restraint, a presence that doesn't announce itself but instead invites closer attention. VIP Women represented presence without performance. The whisper that stays with you.
What makes the composition interesting is its refusal to commit to just one register. The top is fruity and bright, almost confectionery in its sweetness. The heart is unmistakably white floral, tiare giving it a Polynesian warmth, jasmine keeping it sensual, lily adding a clean lift. But it's the base that holds everything together: vanilla that's creamy rather than sharp, black amber that reads more like warmth than resin, and musk that extends the drydown without pushing into animalic territory. The result is a fragrance that transitions smoothly from opening to fade, never lurching from one phase to the next. It's a well-mannered composition, one that knows when to step forward and when to step back.
The evolution
The opening presents plum and blackcurrant arriving together in a juicy, almost jammy burst. The fruit notes dominate the top phase, providing an immediate sweetness that sets a inviting tone. The florals begin to assert themselves as the composition unfolds, taking over the foreground while the fruit recedes. The transition is not dramatic, it's a slow handoff, the sweetness of the top notes giving way to the creaminess of the heart. Jasmine adds a lush, almost indolic richness that rounds out the floral character. Tiare contributes its own tropical buttery quality, blending with jasmine to create a more full-bodied floral presence than either note alone could achieve. The drydown is where VIP Women earns its reputation. Vanilla arrives warm and soft, followed by black amber that adds a subtle resinous depth without the sharpness of traditional amber.
Cultural impact
VIP Women exists in a specific niche: fruity-floral-gourmand with restraint. Fruity florals were becoming more accessible during this era, often leaning toward sweeter and more approachable compositions. VIP Women took a different approach, using vanilla and amber to keep the scent grounded in something more complex than pure confection. The structure balances plum and blackcurrant with tiare and jasmine, layering creamy florals against dark fruit notes. Vanilla and amber in the base provide warmth that invites rather than overwhelms.
