The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Neroli Pomodoro draws its name from the Italian words for orange blossom and tomato, a direct nod to the kitchen gardens of Southern Italy. Perfumer Christine Hassan developed the concept alongside Carlos Huber of ARQUISTE, building the fragrance around crisp citrus oils, a surprising tomato leaf accord, classic florals, and clean white musk. The result is a summer scent that refuses to whisper.
What makes Neroli Pomodoro stand apart is the honest-to-god tomato leaf at its core. In perfumery, green notes often appear as supporting players, a whisper of cut grass, a hint of herbal freshness. Here, the tomato leaf is the main character. The fragrance commits to that gamble, opening with an aromatic intensity that feels more like stepping into a sun-warmed garden than applying perfume. The Calabrian and Sicilian neroli oils ground what could have been a one-note stunt into something with actual depth.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and assertive. Tomato leaf and basil arrive together, green and immediate, like stems crushed between your fingers. Within minutes, Sicilian blood orange and mandarin brighten the picture, a flash of citrus that cuts through the green without softening it. The Calabrian neroli follows, bringing its floral weight to balance the sharpness. The heart unfolds as orange blossom takes the lead, with marigold adding a warm, herbal honey undertone. Petitgrain lingers throughout, its bitter edge keeping everything honest. The drydown strips back to amber and white musk, clean, quiet, close to the skin. On most skin types, the full arc lasts through the afternoon. The next morning, a faint clean warmth remains, like skin that was once in the sun.
Cultural impact
Neroli Pomodoro arrives in a fragrance landscape where 'fresh' has become a catch-all for safe, inoffensive compositions. The tomato leaf accord pushes back against that tendency, it's a statement ingredient, one that signals the wearer isn't interested in blending in. Within the Chicago niche scene and the broader community of unconventional citrus fragrances, this one has carved out territory as the scent for people who want to be remembered, not just liked.
