Christine Hassan
Christine Hassan grew up in the streets of New York, watching the city’s smells mingle with the clatter of traffic and the perfume of street‑food stalls. As a child she learned that scent anchors memory, that a single breath can summon a feeling. She pursued sculpture at the School of Visual Arts, then shifted to cinematography, where she learned to frame light and shadow. In 2010 she earned a master’s degree in perfumery and completed an intensive apprenticeship at Drom Fragrances. Givaudan recruited her for its New York Fine Fragrance Creative Centre, where she now translates three‑dimensional ideas into scent. Her first major launch arrived with the Essence of Dreams collection for a leading fashion house, a project that proved her ability to fuse artistic rigor with commercial appeal. Since then she has guided dozens of briefs, balancing client goals with her own sculptural sensibility.

How Christine composes
Hassan builds accords layer by layer, much like a sculptor adds clay. She favors a clear backbone of woods—cedar, sandalwood, guaiac—anchored by mineral accords that add edge. Floral notes appear as highlights, not blankets; she often chooses tuberose or jasmine in a restrained, almost austere manner. Ambergris and musk provide depth, while occasional bursts of citrus or spice create contrast. She experiments with unconventional textures, such as smoked birch or metallic accords, to mimic the feel of polished metal or rough stone. Her signatures include a crisp, dry finish that leaves space for the wearer’s skin to interpret the piece.
Philosophy
What drives Christine
Hassan treats each formula as a sculpture, carving space with notes instead of stone. She believes fragrance should reveal texture, contrast, and balance, much like a well‑cut marble figure. Her work starts with a visual or tactile impression, then she selects ingredients that echo that feeling. Human connection drives her; she wants a perfume to become a silent conversation between wearer and world. She avoids trends that feel fleeting, preferring timeless structures that age gracefully on skin. For her, scent is a language that speaks without words, and every accord must earn its place.
