    Hüseyin Erdoğmuş

Hüseyin Erdoğmuş began his scent career in the spring of 1974, fresh from a chemical engineering degree at Middle East Technical University. The same year he entered the workshop of Eyüp Sabri Tuncer, one of Turkey’s oldest fragrance houses, where he learned to translate raw botanicals into elegant accords. By 1981 he launched EPS Fragrances, a company that married his scientific training with the country’s rich aromatic heritage. Three years later EPS opened a dedicated rose distillation facility, a move that cemented Erdoğmuş’s reputation for sourcing pure, locally grown essences. Over the decades he has mentored a generation of Turkish perfumers, shared his knowledge at university masterclasses, and introduced the market to the Neo Oriental family, a modern take on classic oriental structures. Today he balances the demands of commercial production with a quiet devotion to artisanal craftsmanship, guiding EPS toward a future that respects tradition while embracing innovation.

    How Hüseyin composes

In the studio Erdoğmuş favors a methodical layering process: he builds a base from high‑purity essential oils, adds a heart of carefully selected absolutes, and finishes with a precise splash of synthetics that enhance longevity without masking the natural character. Rose, jasmine, and Turkish oud appear frequently in his work, reflecting his early exposure to the Anatolian flora. He often employs a subtle modulation of temperature during maceration, a practice he borrowed from his engineering background, to coax hidden facets from raw materials. The final blend typically balances a bright, floral opening with a warm, resinous dry‑down, delivering a scent that evolves gracefully on the skin.

    Philosophy

    What drives Hüseyin

Erdoğmuş treats each formula as a conversation between science and memory. He believes that a fragrance must first honor the integrity of its ingredients before it seeks to evoke emotion. This principle drives him to extract oils at the peak of their botanical cycle and to let those pure notes dictate the composition’s direction. He respects the cultural stories embedded in Turkish aromatics, yet refuses to let nostalgia dictate the final scent. Instead, he frames tradition as a palette, mixing it with contemporary techniques to create works that feel both familiar and startlingly new. The result is a scent language that feels honest, grounded, and unmistakably personal.
