Heritage
A house, in its own words
The origins of Unique'e Luxury trace to a collaboration between two friends, Serhat Okyay and Selim Özen, who shared both Turkish heritage and a passion for artisan perfumery. Okyay, who relocated to California, maintained strong cultural ties to Turkey, while Özen remained connected to Istanbul's fragrance traditions. This geographic and cultural bridge became central to the brand's identity. The founders established the house in 2017, presenting their first collection of fragrances that same year. Their approach rejected the gender-segregated conventions of mainstream perfumery, instead creating unisex compositions from inception. The house operates independently, without the backing of major fragrance conglomerates, which allows creative freedom in formulation and production. Okyay has discussed the brand's journey in interviews, emphasizing the personal nature of building a niche house from scratch. The Turkish-American positioning provides the brand with access to both Mediterranean aromatic traditions and the diverse Los Angeles fragrance community. The brand maintains active engagement with its audience through social media platforms, where it shares information about new releases and its bespoke services. Unique'e Luxury operates on the principle that fragrance should function as a form of personal expression rather than a commercial accessory. The brand constructs each perfume around a narrative concept, drawing from memories, landscapes, and emotional experiences. This approach prioritizes emotional resonance over market trends. The founders believe in the democratization of high-quality perfumery, making their compositions accessible to anyone seeking distinctive scents regardless of gender. Their unisex positioning reflects a conviction that scent transcends binary categorization. The bespoke service offered by the house exemplifies this philosophy, inviting clients to collaborate on creating perfumes that capture individual stories and inspirations. This consultative process moves away from passive consumption toward active participation in the creative act. The brand's Turkish roots inform an aesthetic that honors traditional Ottoman fragrance culture while embracing modern formulation techniques.
