Gökhan Şimşek
Born in the Anatolian city of İzmir, Gökhan Şimşek grew up surrounded by spice markets and citrus groves. He inhaled the scent of drying figs, rosewater, and cedar smoke before he ever opened a bottle. After completing a chemistry degree at Istanbul University, he moved to Paris in 2012 to study under legendary French masters at the ISIPCA perfumery school. The rigorous curriculum sharpened his technical precision and introduced him to the language of raw materials. His first commercial assignment arrived in 2015, when a niche house asked him to craft a unisex scent that blended Turkish amber with Mediterranean bergamot. The fragrance earned critical praise and placed his name on the radar of independent brands. Since then he has authored more than twenty eight compositions, ranging from the mineral clarity of “Ionia” to the opulent depth of “Grand Conqueror.” He now splits his time between a modest atelier in the Marais and the bustling labs of Istanbul, mentoring young noses while continuing to explore the border between heritage and modernity.

How Gökhan composes
His signature technique mixes traditional Turkish aromatics with contemporary synthetics. He favors rose otto, Turkish amber, and smoked oud, pairing them with modern musks and transparent aldehydes. He often builds a base of resinous woods, then lifts it with bright citrus or aromatic herbs, creating a clear structure that reveals each note in turn. He avoids over‑modulation, preferring crisp transitions that let the heart pulse. In the studio he works by hand, measuring drops on a glass plate before committing to a batch, a habit that keeps his creations tactile and intimate.
Philosophy
What drives Gökhan
Şimşek treats each formula as a conversation between memory and material. He believes scent should anchor a moment, not merely decorate it, so he starts every brief by recalling a personal anecdote—a sunrise over the Bosphorus, the hiss of a tea kettle. He selects ingredients that echo that feeling, then layers them with disciplined precision. The result feels immediate yet evolves on the skin, inviting the wearer to revisit the original impression. For him, creativity thrives on restraint; a single accord can carry a whole narrative if he lets it breathe.
