The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Let's Move arrived in 2012 with a name that says everything. The brief from Benetton was clear: a fragrance for men who are always somewhere, doing something. Not a statement scent. Not an occasion fragrance. Something you'd reach for before heading out the door. Olivier Pescheux, the nose behind countless bestsellers including Paco Rabanne's 1 Million, took the assignment seriously. The composition opens with bright citrus that captures immediacy. At its heart, herbal notes provide structure and definition. The warm base rounds out the scent, offering something inviting and grounded. The result is a fougère with confident character, the kind of scent that doesn't demand attention but earns it through reliability.
The fougère structure is the frame, but the tonka-amber-vanilla base is where the personality lives. The lavender-geranium heart gives the composition its masculine backbone. What's clever is the drydown: instead of letting the fougère lean too far into soapy or sharp territory, the warm balsamic notes soften the edges. The tonka bean brings coumarin's characteristic sweetness, softened by the other base materials. Amber adds resinous weight without heaviness. Vanilla ties it together with powdery comfort.
The evolution
On skin, Let's Move opens exactly as advertised: a bright burst of citrus. Bergamot and mandarin orange hit first, with the black pepper adding a clean heat that keeps the citrus from being too sweet. The opening captures that moment of transition, the instant before you head out the door. The citrus evolves as it settles into the skin, losing some of its initial sparkle to reveal what lies beneath. The lavender arrives with its characteristic herbal sharpness, softened by geranium's subtle rosy warmth. Cedar slides in underneath, giving the heart a dry woody structure. This mid-phase is where the fragrance feels most put-together, masculine without aggression, fresh without being sterile. The heart notes linger, creating a bridge between the bright opening and the warm finish. The base notes take their turn, unfolding gradually.
Cultural impact
Let's Move occupies a quiet space in the fragrance landscape, neither a blockbuster nor a cult favorite. The reception has been mixed: some appreciate its unpretentious character and easy wearability, while others find it too familiar, too safe. What's clear is that the fragrance does exactly what it sets out to do. The scent offers a certain modesty, a sense of restraint that some see as a limitation and others appreciate as a strength. It avoids the extremes: not too bold, not too quiet, not too traditional, not too modern. For the right wearer, that's precisely the appeal.
