The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2013, perfumer Frank Voelkl set out to build something Avon hadn't quite attempted before. The name said everything. Ultra Sexy was built around golden amber, which Voelkl identified early as the backbone of seductive, unstoppable warmth. Every other ingredient was selected to emphasize depth, to give the composition several dimensions rather than a single mood. The result is a fragrance that opens fruity and tempting but settles into something far more personal, a scent with presence and lasting appeal. The composition layers bright tropical notes against deeper, warmer undertones, creating a contrast that keeps the wearer engaged throughout the day. There's a complexity here that rewards attention, where each wearing reveals another facet of the blend.
What makes the architecture of Ultra Sexy interesting is how deliberately the top notes pull against the heart. Passion fruit is tropical and acidic, pear is crisp and watery, together they create an opening that feels bright, almost effervescent. Bergamot keeps it from tipping into candy. Then the florals arrive: magnolia's creamy, slightly honeyed character, peach's velvety sweetness, and peony's soft romantic edges. The contrast between that crisp fruity opening and the lush floral heart is where the fragrance earns its name. Neither phase apologizes for existing. The base of amber, woods, and musk anchors everything, holding the sweetness close to skin so it reads as warmth rather than noise.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast. Passion fruit and pear burst onto skin with an immediate tropical sweetness that feels like stepping into a sunlit market. Bergamot flickers underneath, keeping things bright. Then the florals begin their slow takeover. Magnolia emerges first, creamy and full, followed by peach's velvety warmth and peony's powdery softness. The fruity brightness gradually recedes as the floral heart takes over, creating a lush, romantic transition that feels like moving into a different chapter of the fragrance. The drydown is where Ultra Sexy earns loyalty. Amber warms everything, woods give it structure without heaviness, and musk makes it skin-close. That's when the compliments start. The sillage is moderate but noticeable to someone leaning in, intimate rather than overwhelming, the kind of presence that invites close conversation.
Cultural impact
Ultra Sexy occupies a particular corner of fragrance culture: the affordable statement scent that punches well above its price. It's the fragrance your friend recommends because she loves it, not because she works for the brand. Ultra Sexy is fruity, it's floral, it's sweet, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. The composition invites wearers to experience something confident and unapologetic, a perfume that delivers on its name without pretense or apology.
