The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amica Mea means “my love” in Latin. Atelier Vesper founded the house in the Netherlands and created the fragrance as an expression of a love ritual in Mexico inspired by the Maya. Tuberose is the central floral note, accompanied by neroli, basil, and orange at the top, with ylang-ylang and iris adding depth through their floral, powdery, and tropical qualities. White oud, sandalwood, and tonka bean form a warm, woody, and gently sweet base. Together, the notes create a composition that moves between bright citrus, aromatic herbs, creamy florals, and soft woods. Atelier Vesper launched Amica Mea in 2022.
What makes Amica Mea interesting structurally is the contrast between its top and heart. Neroli, orange, and basil land first, presenting an aromatic opening with citrus brightness and a clear herbal edge. Then tuberose arrives and gives the composition its floral focus. Ylang-ylang and iris sit beneath it, adding a rounded, powdery quality that softens the intensity of the central flower. The combination feels creamy without relying on a uniformly sweet floral profile. White oud in the base provides woody structure, while sandalwood reinforces the smooth woody character.
The evolution
On skin, Amica Mea opens with neroli, orange, and basil, creating a bright and aromatic first impression. The citrus notes bring a clean lift while basil adds a sharper herbal dimension. Tuberose develops underneath, beginning as a softer floral suggestion before becoming more present as the opening fades. Its creamy character gives the composition warmth without making it uniformly sweet. Iris contributes a powdery texture, while ylang-ylang brings a deeper tropical floral quality. The base notes gradually become more apparent as the fragrance wears. Sandalwood forms a smooth woody foundation, tonka bean introduces gentle creamy sweetness, and white oud adds structure. Over time, the bright opening gives way to a soft floral center and a woody, subtly sweet drydown.
Cultural impact
Amica Mea draws its central focus from tuberose, a flower associated here with the Mexican love ritual that inspired the fragrance. Rather than presenting tuberose entirely on its own, the composition surrounds it with neroli, orange, and basil before building through ylang-ylang and iris. The result balances a creamy floral character with citrus brightness, herbal lift, powder, warm woods, and gentle sweetness. White oud, sandalwood, and tonka bean give the later stages a soft woody foundation. The combination offers a distinct way to explore tuberose within a composition built around both floral richness and aromatic contrast.
